Saimers in focus Mover over cashless payments and UPI, time to travel back with Mehul Jain to the coin age. Mehul is a numismatist, one who collects coins and banknotes from the world over. His collection includes coins with images of Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose and Chatrapati Shivaji, and those stamped with religious or environment conservation symbols. Mehul even has a currency which was used during the time of Mughal Emperor Humayun. While the collection may be dated, Mehul keeps track of cashless currency…and is waiting for India to launch the digital rupee. Cashing in on Coins 13 Old is Gold. Literally! In 2021, a ‘1933 Double Eagle gold coin’ was sold for a record-setting $18.9 million (Rs. 138 crore) at an auction in New York. Shoe designer and collector Stuart Weitzman sold the coin. He acquired it in 2002 after spending $7.6 million (over Rs 55 crore). He had the rare and only 1933 Double Eagle coin ever allowed to be privately owned. The coin has a design of an American eagle in flight on one side and Liberty striding forward on the other. It was the last gold coin in circulation in the United States.
