Saimer families in focus Meet the Pad Woman who campaigns for feminine hygiene Sai Harini Daughter of Vasanthamurugesh Manufacturing, Bidar It all started with a social impact project idea she toyed with in Class 11 and 12. VM Sai Harini along with four friends, came up with a solution for menstrual hygiene - a problem faced by women in many parts of India. They created a prototype for a sustainable sanitary napkin using biodegradable material – cotton tissue, cotton and a gel pad made from aloe vera and neem. Harini credits the school management which encouraged the conduct of awareness campaigns within the school. She says menstrual hygiene in India remains an unspoken topic while the reality is among 40 crore menstruating women in India, less than 20 percent have access to sanitary pads. The goal, she says, is to make sanitary pads as economical as possible and distribute them among the less privileged so that more women can have a safe menstrual cycle. Her social focus and entrepreneurial journey at an early age has been acclaimed in the international arena too! Harini is the proud winner of the World’s Biggest Virtual B-Plan Competition at the School Level – Global Schoolpreneur Summit 2021, organised by Metamorphosis Edu. 15
