Saimers in focus Saimer Steven Thomas, part of our Manchester, UK team, prefers to take the high ground when it comes to commitment to the community. For the last six years, as part of the Derby Mountain Rescue Team, Steven has been attending to ‘callouts’ or emergency calls from hikers and mountain climbers who have suffered a slight or serious injury, or have got lost in the hills. His role on a callout could include providing details on the casualty location, providing first-aid and assessment for evacuation to an ambulance, or support during evacuation. He trains regularly with his team to update skills, refresh on first-aid techniques (including administration of analgesia and life-saving medicines), navigation and safe-operation on steep ground.
