Mentors & Students… Make it Better Together Special feature Sai Champions for Children Program 4

In the wake of a lengthy lockdown, it was found children from government schools had little or no interactive learning, leading to regression in knowledge and causing an even deeper impact on their social-emotional health. The Sai Champions for Children program was initiated last year in three government schools to support the continuation of learning. With a team of 14 mentors, all Saimers, weekly virtual sessions were held for a group of children every Sunday, and in some weeks more than once. The mentors provided academic support and served as a role model to the children. In addition, industry professionals such as medical doctors and engineers came forward to counsel the students. Now that normalcy is resuming, the Program has been brought to a formal close. To mark its conclusion, Ms. Sudha Kanumuri, along with some of the mentors, visited the schools in March-April. Each student received a Sai Mug as memento. In addition, every mentor nominated “Star Students” from their group. The Stars were awarded a set of books for early readers. Your participation and selfless service reaffirms our corporate ethos – Make it Better Together!” About the role of Mentors, Ms. Sudha Kanumuri said, 5

“ My internal happiness in giving back to society is priceless. By adopting a scientific approach and mentoring from Adhyayan, we’re providing much-needed support to students who have not been able to attend school during the pandemic.” Hitesh Desai - Bidar “ Happy to be able to spend time with students. Understanding their needs and providing solutions to their problems is really amazing.” Gopalarao - Shamirpet “ It has been great working with students assigned to me. Everyone is showing good interest in classes, and it’s given me immense pleasure. Special feature A passage to India 7 Teamwork and collaboration have been key ingredients of success at Sai Life Sciences. While much of the interaction has been on screen in the last two years, the easing of the pandemic enabled Saimers from UK to visit our facilities at Hyderabad and Bidar. Here’s a first-hand account from Fabien Talbot: “A great aspect of being a Saimer is the opportunity to work with an international team. In March, I had the chance to swap online meetings for in-person discussions with the team in India. My colleague James and I landed in Hyderabad. In the following days, we visited different sites and met fellow Saimers to prepare for the coming manufacture.

A passage to India All our colleagues in Unit II and IV gave us a very warm welcome. We returned with a better understanding of each other’s ways of working, expectations, environment and challenges which will facilitate all future communications. We really look forward to returning the hospitality to our Hyderabad / Bidar colleagues when they visit Manchester. In April, Steven Mount (AR&D), visited Unit II, IV and Corporate. He gained an excellent understanding of the ways of working across the Analytical laboratories of AR&D and QC. Indian cuisine lives up to its high reputation, however, better to ask for not too spicy! I was caught off-guard by the famous dosa one morning. I dipped it in my coffee thinking that it would be sweet like a pancake, only to realise that my poor tongue, not used to any kind of spices atall, started to burn!” Fabien Talbot P R&D, Manchester 8

10 Memories of another day Stepping into Vijay Kulkarni’s ancestral house is like stepping back in time. Constructed around the year 1870, the robust edifice has the hallmarks of an eco-friendly design that ensured the occupants had sufficient illumination and ventilation in an era sans fans and lights. When Vijay visits during the monsoon, he enjoys watching the downpour, knowing nothing can wash away the memories.

Saimers in focus A film by Saimers, for Saimers on awareness of Road Safety 14 To drive home the importance of wearing a helmet, our Admin & Engineering Team produced a safety video. The intent is to educate Saimers on the danger of head injury due to lack of protective gear. An email from Hitesh Desai emphasizing Helmet Awareness gave a fillip to the project. Why should bike riders wear a helmet? Take the cue from cricketers who need protection from a ball bowled at over 100 km per hour. Nagashetty Team Admin and Engineering, Bidar to view the film

Saimers in focus An evergreen route to garden-fresh vegetables It is likely that neighbours of Ram Satish Raj are green with envy. He does not shop for vegetables, bargain on price and bicker over quality. Because he cultivates an assortment at home, on the terrace. “I always wanted to grow my own vegetables and wanted to make sure that I have a beautiful garden with flowers and vegetables. I grow Corn, Onion, Red Chillies, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Spinach, Brinjal and Strawberries,” says the avid terrace gardener. As for neighbours’ envy, the proud garden owner makes it a point to share the excess produce among them. 15 Ram Satish Raju HR, Corporate
